I want to build an eco-cottage, any suggestions?

hi, I want to build an eco-cottage in South Africa, its for an organization for kdis who have been sexually abused. Anyway, the idea of the cottage is so that the kids will have a sense of purpose and improve their mental health. Like I was thinking of putting a garbage chute in the kitchen for compost it shoot it out to the garden which they will tend to. Any suggestions for eco-cottage ideas? Like stuff we could put in the eco-cottage that the kids could work with? I dont know much about building, etc., so any websites, ideas would help!
